Cheng Guangcheng’s escape from house arrest is worthy of attention. It is a human rights issue that is not being discussed and is a soft spot for people of color.
In China, large families have long been regarded as a blessing. The Chinese seem to require more persuasion to reduce the birth rate than their American counterparts. Cheng discovered that officials were forcing parents of two children to be sterilized, while women carrying their third baby were being compelled to have abortions.

Ironically, options held in American law to be a woman’s to choose are being forced on women by law in China against their will and in egregious cruel ways. Imagine being a young woman and being forced into doctor’s office to be sterilized. Not so pretty now is it? There are many that say that the threat of over population is the necessary evil to fight. It is not. In fact there are several reports out now that say the contradict that.
Contemplate the following:
According to The UN:
- In 1975, the mean global age was 22. In 2050, it will be 38.
- Europe’s population will shrink to 12 percent. Europe had 25 percent of the world’s population in 1900. By 2050, Europe will have only seven percent. In 1900, Europe had three times the population of Africa.
- China has had a one-child policy. Within 100 years, China will have far more boys than girls.
-South Korea faces a similar problem. Because of abortion of females, kindergartens in Seoul today have around 60 percent boys.
