Think Positive – Introducing The “Set 4 Life Series”

    Last week we watched three notable people (Rep. Joe Wilson, Kanye, Serena Williams) put their feett in their mouths literally and figuratively. All of them as far as I know regret their statements and as a result are dealing with the repercussions of those senseless remarks.  As all of these events unfolded this week what crossed my mind was “what were they thinking!”  I concluded the obvious that they not thinking “positively”. In my opinion it was destructive and I am not sure they thought clearly about where this would land them.

    Positive thoughts and attitudes can change your life dramatically and drive you to success and happiness. I am often asked by people who have gotten themselves into difficult situations, how do I get out of it.  One of the first things I suggest is to change your thinking. According to the Mayo Clinic your  optimistic or pessimistic  thinking may reflect your outlook on life, your attitude toward yourself and how you engage with others. In fact,  studies have shown that these traits can affect many areas of your health and well-being. Positive thinking also is a key part of effective stress management. Positive thinking doesn’t mean that you keep your head in the sand and ignore life’s less pleasant situations. It just means that you approach the unpleasantness in a more positive and productive way.

    Two books that have made a profound impact on my life are “The Power of Positive Thinking” by Norman Vincent Peale and “As a Man Thinketh” by James Allen.  I would encourage you to read them if you really want to change how your think.  The premise of “As A Man Thinketh” is likening your mind to a garden when you put positive thoughts into in it it grows positive actions and you get positive result.  If you don’t weeds grow.  Makes you think what are you feeding your mind with?

    What positive things are you feeding your mind? What books are your reading? What positive people, music or environments are you engaged in?  What negative things, PEOPLE or environments are you around? Did I tell you that I am allergic to negative people.

    Did you know you fail in your mind before you fail in life?  Negative thoughts work the same way as positive thoughts just in the wrong direction, negative thoughts lead to negative actions that gets negative results.

    I would like to challenge you to change your thinking by fasting from negative thoughts, the same way you would fast from food.  Decide today that you will abstain from negative thinking, self criticism, people and environments. Start with a 24 hour challenge, then move it up a notch to one week, then a month and push to one year.  Track your out comes and I bet you will see positive results in your life.

    Below you will find steps to help you on your journey to positive thinking:

    Begin and end your day with affirmations. Positive affirmations are short statements that summarize your goal or the way you want to act, feel, or respond to certain situations.

    ⁃         I am a success
    ⁃         I am an overcomer
    ⁃         I am a Millionaire in Training
    ⁃         I am Champion
    ⁃         I can do all things through him who strengthens me
    ⁃         Greater is he that that is in me than he that is in the world.
    ⁃         I am healthy, wealthy and wise

    Make the following changes in your life:

    ⁃    Focus on what is going right and what YOU can improve your life (Phillipians 4:8)
    ⁃    Focus on where you are going not where you have been
    ⁃    Find and work with people who have good and common goals
    ⁃    Find a coach or mentor find someone in front of you can chase them

    Why your thoughts are so important:

    ⁃    Watch your thoughts, they become words.
    ⁃    Watch your words, they become actions
    ⁃    Watch your actions, they become habits.
    ⁃    Watch your habits they become your character.
    ⁃    Watch your character, it becomes your destiny.

    Action Steps to A Better You:

    ⁃    Make a commitment today to fast from negative thinking
    ⁃    Write your own affirmations
    ⁃    Let me know the positive results that came from the changes your made in your life.

    I promise these small changes will create big results in your life!
