<p>What Do I Do If I Become A Victim of Identity Theft?</p>

<p>Over the last couple of weeks we have looked at steps you can take to reduce your risk of becoming a victim of identity theft. I wish I could tell you that by applying these simple steps you can avoid any opportunity of becoming a victim of this crime. Unfortunately, I can not guarantee that kind of success. Identity theft is on the rise according to the 2009 Javelin Strategy and Research affecting about 10 million people, which is a 22% increase from 2008. These numbers reflect the stark reality that identity theft is not going away. We need to be prepared and know what to do if we become a victim.</p>
<p><strong>Act immediately:</strong> if you determine that you are a victim of identity theft, according to the California Attorney General Office, you must act quickly to minimize the damages.</p>
<p><strong>Report Identity Theft to All Three Credit Bureaus:</strong> Contact the fraud department of Trans Union, Experian and Equifax and report that your identity has been stolen. Ask that the fraud alert be put on your file. These alerts stay active for 90 days and will ensure that creditors must verify your identity before making any changes to your accounts or opening new accounts.</p>
<p><strong>File Reports with Law Enforcement:</strong> File a report with the police department and the Federal Trade Commission. When you file a police report bring as much information as possible with you.  After you file, make sure to get a copy for your files.  When you file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (<a href="http://elev8.com/www.ftc.giv/idetheft">www.ftc.giv/idetheft</a>) to give law enforcement to help fight identity theft.</p>
<p><strong>Contact all your Creditors:</strong> Make a list of who you need to contact. Whenever you make these calls, write down the date and time and the name of the person that you talked to, along with any notes from the call. Make sure you follow up those initial calls with a certified letter.</p>
<p><strong>Monitor your Credit Report Regularly:</strong> When you reach out to notify the credit bureaus that you have been a victim of fraud get a free copy of your credit report. Check it carefully for any companies you don’t recognize, accounts you did not open or unknown charges on your accounts.</p>
<p><strong>Contest the Bills that Result from Identity Theft:</strong> Close any accounts   that many have been tampered with or opened without your knowledge. Ask for the fraud department at each company. Then ask for a fraud dispute form to dispute charges or new accounts that have been opened.  If the company does not have a special form send a letter to the address given for billing inquires.</p>
<p><strong>Follow Up:</strong> Make sure you follow up with phone calls, in writing, and follow up your letters with phone calls, especially to credit bureaus, banks, and credit card companies.  Use certified mail. Keep a copy of all correspondence in your file. Once you have resolved any disputed charges or accounts with a company, ask them to put it in writing for you to confirm that the disputes have been settled.</p>
<p><strong>Be Persistent:</strong> I need to warn you this is not going to be an easy process. I want to encourage you to be persistent and aggressive. If someone is not giving you the help or answers you need, ask to speak to a supervisor.</p>

<p>My son had <a href="http://www.treatingskineczema.com" target="_blank"><strong>eczema</strong></a> at birth until 10 months old and we were prescribed prescription Elidel and were told to use on all areas where the eczema irritated his skin. <span id="more-180532"></span> We didn’t know that it was causing thinning in his skin and the possible <a href="http://www.treatingskineczema.com" target="_blank"><strong>risk of cancer</strong></a>.  We learned early on about the side affects.  There are so many users of atopic creams and a lot are unaware of the dangers.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.treatingskineczema.com" target="_blank"><strong>Eczema</strong></a> or atopic dermatitis is one of the most common skin disorders seen in infants and children, affecting 10 to 15 per cent of the childhood population,&#8221; states the FDA.</p>
<p>A few years after approving the drug, the FDA decided there was a cancer-risk associated with Elidel. In a public health advisory published in March, 2005 (an advisory that was also aimed at Protopic, another anti-eczema product made by Japanese company Astellas), the FDA recommended that Elidel only be used as a &#8220;second-line agent for short-term and intermittent treatment of atopic dermatitis (eczema) in patients unresponsive to, or intolerant of, other treatments.&#8221;</p>
<p>Adults or children with weakened immune systems were advised to avoid the drug. The FDA also urged parents not to use Elidel on kids younger than two years old.  In addition to possibly hurting people&#8217;s immune systems, the FDA admitted that Elidel might also be carcinogenic.</p>
<p>&#8220;Animal studies have shown that three different species of animals developed cancer following exposure to [Elidel and Protopic] applied topically, or given by mouth, including mice, rats and a recent study of monkeys,&#8221; the FDA explained.</p>
<p>&#8220;As of December 2004, the FDA had received 10 cases of postmarketing reports linking Elidel with cancer-related adverse events,&#8221; added the public health advisory. &#8220;Four cases occurred in children, three of these in children less than six years old. The other six cases occurred in adults.&#8221;</p>

<p>Be On The Look Out For Identity Scams Part 2 Identity Theft</p>

<p>In 2008, identity theft cost Americans over $48 Billion dollars according to a recent survey conducted by Javelin Strategy and Research. These financial costs are a huge burden on businesses, the criminal justice system, society and the individual. When I read this dollar figure I was alarmed simply because I realize that you can not put a cost on the pain, suffering and stress that one feels when you experience this type of assault. The human cost of time and financial lost, credit problems, your good name and lack of assistance is real and extremely hard to quantify. The main message that I am trying to communicate is that identity theft can have a devastating impact on a victim so you need to be informed.</p>
<p>One preventive measure to stop this crime is to become familiar with the common ways that identity theft happens.  That’s right “common ways”, believe it or not identify theft happens in familiar, well-known everyday circumstances.  Take a look at the list below and make sure that you take action and protect your personal information.</p>
<p>Good Old Fashion Stealing:  Someone steals your wallet or purse; credit cards; credit card statements; pre-approved credit card offers; new checks or tax information. Someone can also steal personnel records or personal records stored at a bank, hospital, or company by hacking into their computer system.</p>
<p><strong>Dumpster Diving:</strong> This just sound gross but people are desperate. Someone searches through your trash looking for bills or papers with your personal information on it. Remember to shred your mail before tossing in the trash.</p>
<p><strong>Shoulder Surfing:</strong> This is when someone is watching you from a nearby location watching you punch in your pin number or credit card number. Remember to cover your hand when you are dialing in these numbers. Also, this could involve someone listen to you give your personal information via phone. Remember to avoid opportunities to give this information over the phone, especially if this call is an unsolicited call.</p>
<p><strong>Skimming:</strong> This involves someone stealing your credit card number by using a special device when your card is processed.</p>
<p><strong>Phishing:</strong> Someone pretends to be a financial institution or company and sends you spam or pop up messages to get you to reveal your personal information.</p>
<p>I hope you found this information helpful. Last year over 11 million people fell victim to identity theft. I believe that the more we become aware of how identify theft happens, we can make informed decisions and prevent it from occurring in our own lives. <p><em><strong>Your Victory on the McCain Bill</strong></em></p>
<p><em><strong>We did it!</strong></em></p>
<p><em><strong>It’s all thanks to the action that you took.</strong></em></p>
<p><em><strong>Hundreds of thousands of messages poured into the Senate opposing Senator McCain’s bill, the bill that would have wiped out current legislative protections for dietary supplements. More and more messages were arriving by the day. The entire Congress began to take note. Senator McCain was embarrassed by our ad whose headline pointed out that he was misrepresenting and did not seem to understand his own bill.</strong></em></p>
<p><em><strong>Word is now racing around Capitol Hill that Senator McCain met with Senator Orin Hatch, a champion of natural medicine, and told him that he is withdrawing his support for the bill he authored, the so-called Dietary Supplement Safety Act (S 3002). This means that the bill as written is now dead.</strong></em></p>
<p><em><strong>Is this the end of the story? No. Having given his word to a fellow senator, McCain is not likely to resume his support for the bill. But we do need to see a declaration from McCain himself. We will need to see if McCain will try to offer some modified version of the bill. And there has also been no word from the other co-sponsor of the bill, Senator Dorgan.</strong></em></p>
<p><em><strong>We will keep you posted. In the meantime, it is time to celebrate your accomplishment. The democratic process worked. The people spoke and a powerful senator reversed course. It was all because of you, the active citizens willing to take time and make the effort to defend natural and sustainable forms of health and healthcare in the often hostile environment of Washington, DC. As we all know, Washington is ringed today with special commercial interests. They have millions of dollars of campaign contributions to hand out and gigantic lobbying budgets. But in the end, politicians have to answer to the people.</strong></em></p>

<p>If you are like every other <a href="http://66335rv7qfpk4kfyx9s9yclrv-.hop.clickbank.net/" target="_blank"><strong>yo-yo dieter</strong></a> out there, chances are you have started and stopped several diet plans with no success. <span id="more-179492"></span>The first week is easy. You’re full of excitement. You tell yourself “this time will be different.” The second week is ok, a little harder than the first but you’re still sticking to it. And then what happens? You bend the rules a bit and start falling back into your old habits. Why does this happen? Why do we go through this vicious cycle? I’ll tell you why. We are focusing on the wrong goal. For whatever reason, we must not perceive our weight loss as being “important enough” to achieve. So what would be “important enough” to stick to our new healthy eating habits? <a href="http://66335rv7qfpk4kfyx9s9yclrv-.hop.clickbank.net/" target="_blank"><strong>Your HEALTH</strong></a>! Nothing in this world is more important than the state of your health. Think about it, your health affects everything else in your life. Once our health is compromised we automatically change our lifestyle habits. Let’s not wait until our bodies completely have a break down before we decide to take care of ourselves. If you feel lousy, everything you do that day is lousy. Likewise, if you feel great, everything you do that day is great.</p>
<p>Ask yourself, “How important is my health to me? How do I want to live the rest of my life? Sick and feeling horrible or healthy and feeling vibrant? Do I want to play golf and tennis in my retirement or do I want to spend it in the hospital?” The answer to these questions will ultimately dictate your weight and your health for the future. Any lifestyle habit that affects your health in a positive way will automatically cause you to lose weight or maintain a good <a href="http://66335rv7qfpk4kfyx9s9yclrv-.hop.clickbank.net/" target="_blank"><strong>healthy weight</strong></a>.</p>
<p>Follow this checklist towards health and you will see weight come off automatically.</p>
<p><strong>1. Make the time to focus on health.</strong></p>
<p>The number one reason people do not <a href="http://66335rv7qfpk4kfyx9s9yclrv-.hop.clickbank.net/" target="_blank"><strong>eat healthy</strong></a> or exercise is because they “don’t have the time”. But why is it that once we get sick, have a heart attack, are diagnosed with heart disease, diabetes or cancer, we all of a sudden have the time? This doesn’t make any sense. Prioritize your day. What could possibly be more important than your health? Your children, yes, I agree. But guess what? If something happens to you, who will be there for your children? Prioritize your day so that making <a href="http://66335rv7qfpk4kfyx9s9yclrv-.hop.clickbank.net/" target="_blank"><strong>healthy meal choices</strong></a> and exercising are right at the top.</p>
<p><strong>2. Take a long hard look at what you are putting into your body. </strong></p>
<p>For one week, read every ingredient of every food you eat. Some ingredient labels on packaged foods sound more like a college chemistry class than anything we should be eating. As a golden rule, if you can’t pronounce it, chances are you shouldn’t be eating it. The majority of the foods you should be eating shouldn’t even have an ingredients label. They should be vegetables, fruits, raw nuts, chicken, fish, eggs, meat. If you make 90% of your diet, fresh food, I guarantee you will significantly <strong><a href="http://66335rv7qfpk4kfyx9s9yclrv-.hop.clickbank.net/" target="_blank">change your weight and your health</a>. </strong></p>
<p><strong>3. How much are you eating?</strong></p>
<p>Restaurant portions are about 3 times more than what we should be eating in one sitting. If we become accustomed to seeing this much food on our plate at a restaurant we tend to do the same when we are at home and serve ourselves. According to a study by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, women are eating 300 more calories a day and men 168 more calories than 20 years ago. All it takes is 100 extra calories a day to <a href="http://66335rv7qfpk4kfyx9s9yclrv-.hop.clickbank.net/" target="_blank"><strong>gain 10 pounds</strong></a> a year.</p>
<p>For one week, reduce your portions at lunch and dinner by half. There is no need to “clean your plate”. Most times what’s on your plate is double what you should be eating anyway. If you feel some hunger in the afternoon, add one small apple with a handful of raw nuts as a snack. Your body will quickly become accustomed to the smaller portions and you will eventually not be able to eat as much in one sitting as you did before.</p>
<p><strong>4. Drink WATER!</strong></p>
<p>Dehydration has directly been linked to several forms of diseases including colon cancer, high blood pressure, and elevated cholesterol levels. Take a look at what you are drinking each day.</p>
<p><em>Coffee or Soda (Diet Coke included)?</em> The caffeine in both will dehydrate you even more and will cause you to feel hungrier during the day.</p>
<p><em>Diet drinks and sodas?</em> The artificial sweetener actually enhances your appetite and increases food intake.</p>
<p><em>Orange Juice and other Fruit Juices?</em> The sugar and calories can add up to 10 teaspoons of sugar per drink, which can be anywhere from 150-200 calories. Not to mention the fact that sugar eventually makes you crave more sugar.</p>
<p>Every person should be drinking half of their body weight in ounces of water each day. So if you weigh 150 lbs, you should be drinking 75 ounces of water each day. If you drink coffee or any other caffeinated beverage during the day, the ounces of water needed increases.</p>

<p>Your body was designed to move! Your heart is a muscle and must be worked just like every other muscle in your body. You don’t have to join a gym to move, you just have to challenge your body and your muscles each and every day.</p>

<li>Go for a walk. You can go for a walk anywhere and anytime.</li>
</ol>
<p>2. Set up your home with some free weights and an exercise ball. You will be amazed at the number of exercises you can do with just your body, some free weights and a stability ball. If you don’t know how, hire a trainer to show you or get a good book. Get into the routine of scheduling your exercise time each and every day. No ifs, ands or buts. Make your exercise time more important than phone calls, laundry, errands or lunch dates.</p>
<p>Make a promise to yourself that this time will be about health, not about short term <a href="http://66335rv7qfpk4kfyx9s9yclrv-.hop.clickbank.net/" target="_blank"><strong>weight loss</strong></a>. Really evaluate how you are treating your body on an everyday basis. Is that the same way you would treat a highly valuable, expensive piece of equipment? Because that’s what your body is. There is no amount of money in the world that will buy you another one, so you might as well take really good care of the one you got!</p>

<p>I hear all the time from busy moms, executives, and students,  “I just don’t have time to <a href="http://65a95q47o52c-nedkjp4o03lfs.hop.clickbank.net/" target="_blank"><strong>eat right and exercise</strong></a>!” No one seems to be able to find the time to lose weight. With all of the responsibilities and events packed into our busy days, how are we to keep ourselves healthy and maintain an optimal weight?<span id="more-178712"></span></p>
<p>When people think weight loss, they think diet and exercise, both of which already sound time consuming.  You can <a href="http://65a95q47o52c-nedkjp4o03lfs.hop.clickbank.net/" target="_blank"><strong>lose weight</strong></a> by proper nutrition alone.  Anyone who has ever attempted to lose weight without changing to healthier eating alternatives knows this is true. Trust me, I’ll be the first one to tell you all the reasons why exercise is so important but following a healthy eating regimen must be priority number 1!</p>

<p><strong>1. Only drink water as your beverage</strong> (with the occasional unsweetened tea or black coffee).</p>

Studies have shown, when all else is kept constant, people lose up to 10lbs just by giving up diet coke. But it has no calories you say? <p>Squeeze fresh lemon in your water or make flavored herbal teas and cool them to make ice tea to make water drinking much easier. If you weigh 150lbs, you must drink 75 ounces of water each day).</p>
<p><strong>2. Eliminate the 4 white devils</strong></p>
<p>White Flour, Refined Salt, White Sugar, and Dairy. If you just <a href="http://65a95q47o52c-nedkjp4o03lfs.hop.clickbank.net/" target="_blank"><strong>stay away from these 4 things</strong></a>, you will automatically see a drastic drop in weight and will instantly feel more energetic throughout the day. Most people are well aware of the harmful effects of flour, refined salt and sugar but dairy? Doesn’t it do a body good? Definitely not! Dairy is one of the number 1 reason people have such a hard time losing weight. It causes inflammation in the body, digestive problems, clogged arteries, and weight gain. Get your calcium from leafy greens and avoid dairy at all costs.</p>

No one needs all of those toxins in their body. Labels should have 2 – 3 items, at most. And the best foods don’t have labels.</p>
<p>Don’t let time be your excuse. If you stop to eat 2-3 times per day and snack in between it is just as easy to find something healthy as it is to find something harmful. Don’t let your body come to a shrieking halt before you decide to do anything about <a href="http://65a95q47o52c-nedkjp4o03lfs.hop.clickbank.net/" target="_blank"><strong>your weight and your health</strong></a>. You know what will be a huge impediment on your time? If you or a family member becomes ill due to poor nutrition and lifestyle habits. So tackle the problem now before it really does begin to affect your time and your life! You can replace cars, homes and all material items, but you only get one body! Take good care of it.</p>

<p>Don’t Get Punked by Identity Theft</p>

<p>Everyday thousands of ordinary people like you and me become victim to identity theft. Identity theft is when a criminal takes someone’s personal information (social security number, birth date, bank account number, credit card   number etc.) for their personal gain. The scary thing about this type of crime is that it can happen at any time – you can be at home, work, school or sleep. Identify thieves are no respecters of people, time or place. They will prey at any opportunity and waste no time getting what they want.</p>
<p>Minimize your risks and take proactive steps to stop identity theft before it happens to you.</p>
<p><strong>Here are a few steps you can take to prevent identify theft from happening to you. </strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Do not give out personal information over the phone, mail or internet -</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Unless you initiated the contact; however still be cautious, know who you are giving the information to and what it will be used for and who will see it.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Don’t carry more than what you need in your wallet or purse.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Avoid carrying your social security card</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Avoid carry more than 1-2 credit cards</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Use cash in questionable retail stores, nail shops etc.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Review your credit report on a regular basis</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Shred your documents</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Pay close attention to your mail</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Know when your bills arrive</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Shred mail once you have read it</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Review your credit card and bank statements every month</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Create strong passwords.</li>
</ul>
<p>Avoid using your birthday, name, car model, pet name<br />
Change your passwords regularly and do not use the same one for everything.</p>
<ul>
<li>Beware of online phishing scams</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Do not open e-mail from senders that you do not know</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Do not click on links that you do not know</li>
</ul>
<p>I hope these steps are helpful to you. Unfortunately we cannot think that it will never happen to us. Statistics are showing that identity theft is on the rise becoming more frequent and pervasive. Over the next couple of weeks we will take a look at some common ways that identify theft happens and what steps you should take if you become a victim of identity theft.<br />
It is my desire that you are inspired to be a good steward over these three areas of your life: Time, Talent, Treasure. Time, you must learn to manage your time; talent you have skills and gifts and lastly treasure, your finances need to managed appropriately. All of these areas work together; when they are managed properly you will be able to become A BETTER YOU!</p>
