Who Is “X” And What Has He Done For Me?
The scripture states that unto us a child is born
For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace
Isaiah 9:6
In our fast pace world of instantaneous satisfaction, we try to shorten, hyphenate and sometimes eliminate things for convenience sake. So many would like to eliminate Christ from Christmas and XMAS is a start. Although, Jesus was not born on December 25, it is a day that has been set aside to recognize and celebrate His birth.
“But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end.”
Luke 1:30-33
It is amazing how many things we as Americans participate in and we have no real idea of the true meaning of the holiday celebration. Based on my research, Christmas is not what we have made it. The initial intent dealt with pagan worship, death and various dark activities. The Christmas that we know was formed out of the Catholic church, which added a variety of traditions that created the celebration that we know to date. Even in that, we have lost sight of what a Christian Christmas is about; it is all hidden behind the fluff of presents, Santa, and Christmas trees. Christmas day is a day that has been set aside in remembrance of the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Let us take time to remember Jesus is OUR reason for the season. This is a time of sharing the love of Christ, a time of appreciation, and most of all- a time of giving the only one precious gift you have, yourself. If God gave His only Son, can we not give ourselves (John 3:16-17)?
The best demonstration of this love is in the lyrics of the song Oh Holy Night (see lyrics below). The lyrics epitomize the true spirit of a Christian Christmas season. As you listen to the lyrics sung by Jennifer Hudson, remember it’s CHRISTmas not XMAS. Christ has done so much for us. Does He not deserve the full honor that is due Him?
Merry Christmas! God Bless you!
Much love,
Judi
Oh Holy Night:
Oh holy night!
The stars are brightly shining
It is the night of the dear Savior’s birth!
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
Till he appear’d and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn!
Fall on your knees
Oh hear the angel voices
Oh night divine
Oh night when Christ was born
Oh night divine
Oh night divine
Led by the light of Faith serenely beaming
With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand
So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming
Here come the wise men from Orient land
The King of Kings lay thus in lowly manger
In all our trials born to be our friend
