“Families need help right now. We’re in a crisis”, says Mobile County Juvenile Court Judge Edmond Naman.
Mobile County is exploring new ways of reaching out to families before kids get into trouble.
In a meeting recently with the WKRG News 5 Crime Solutions Task Force, Judge Naman said Mobile County is exploring new ways of reaching out to families before kids get into trouble. But, local pastors have already implemented a curriculum the judge is very impressed with, Effective Black Parenting.
Tande Wilkerson is a graduate of the program. She took classes at Aimwell Baptist Church in Mobile. She says what she learned has helped to enhance an already wonderful relationship she has with her seven year old son, Wayne.
“I don’t yell at him, Wayne do this..or Wayne, I don’t yell as much. I now know how to talk to him and he works better with me talking to him versus me yelling at him”, says Wilkerson.
Effective Black Parenting is a 15 week skill building program. It teaches adults how to better communicate with African American Children.

Effective parenting starts by teaching kids not to blame the white man when they do wrong. Stop making excuses saying s**t like “My baby ain’t do nothin’” because it’s a got dam lie….

This is great. Thanks for sharing… I think ALL parents should take parenting classes! Especially new parents. Children do NOT come with instructions. I just finished a course through my son’s school and learned so much! It was generally focused, I would totally attend a Black Christian focused class!
