Welfare Fraud Needs To Be Reported

In January 2009, the New York Times reported that there were more than 1.2 million welfare recipients in the state of California and more than 2.3 million people receiving food stamps.  With the economy in the condition it’s in, it’s not a wonder that welfare fraud is on the rise.  California has the 2nd highest unemployment rate of 8.2% next to Rhode Island with 9.3%.  People are fraught to make ends meet and with the shortage of men in the single run households, women are desperately seeking ways to feed their families.

Sadly, statistics show that Los Angeles County has maintained the highest rate of welfare fraud with approximately 141,000 cases filed and more than $8 million dollars in overpayments.  Women are reportedly accepting money from the county of Los Angeles at alarming rates while collecting funds from additional side hustles.  Now…it’s isn’t against the law to have such a means but when the income goes unreported, therein lies the problem.  Unfortunately, welfare fraud costs the tax payers millions in dollars each year.    We’re talking about blue collar workers who barely have a pot to…well, you know the rest.

If enough citizens put their ears to the ground, we can really make some noise.  Los Angeles populace needs to get out of the, “It’s not my business” bubble and understand that our livelihoods are directly connected to the honesty of our fellow society.  Another way to blow the lid off is to advertise the consequences so that more women who are milking the county will understand what’s at stake.  If it was widely known that jail-time is a repercussion of stealing from “the man,” people would think twice about cashing that check at the top of the month.  I’m just saying…

It’s amazing to me that all 5 of you have raised all of these interesting points and I guess they are all valid. But there is one that begs to be mentioned and that illegal immigrants. If a illegal hops over a fence pregnant, when that child is born it is an American citizen and is eligible for food stamps, welfare and medicaid. There is something VERY wrong with this! How can a state like California have so many illegals using up state resources and pay no taxes and expect NOT to run out of money after awhile is beyond me!

Side hustle? Side hustles isn’t guranteed income. And I get so sick of people of color screaming our tax dollars, welfare only takes 0.93% Of tax dollars, which means that if you paid 6,200 in Fed taxes, 465.00 goes not only to welfare but to Veterans as well, so before you start crying and complaining about tax dollars do some research. We as A people cry and complain too much about helping those less fortunate than us, do you question what your Pastor does with your tithes and offerings??? The money that’s given to families from the welfare symstem is a joke you have to have a hustle just to keep your head above water. People please stop passing Judgement when you don’t have all the facts. No one is complaing about the insaine amounts of money Athletes receive. WAKE UP BLACK PEOPLE!

And how many more black people are going to have to suffer and DIE at the hands of racist police, guards, prision officials and corrupt politicians BEFORE SOMEBODY DOES SOMETHING ABOUT IT??

Handle that business and THEN talk to me about Welfare Fraud.

When rich WHITE folks start stepping up to the plate and reporting their fraudulent behavior with this country’s money, such as fraudulent loans from banks to big time criminals for the purposes of money laundering, ill gotten gains hidden in offshore “numbered” accounts where the bearer pays NO taxes, white collar ponzi schemes and tax shelter fraud, insider trading in the stock exchange, insurance companies “bottom line”, credit card companies trying to trap you into owing them FOREVER, ridiculously high real estate and GENTRIFICATION (pricing out poor, mostly BLACK folks, so they can’t afford to live in the neighborhood and have to move), the medical profession pushing their drugs on our children to get them HOOKED from birth, the food and drug administration for their taking money under the table and letting UNSAFE drugs be released to the public, the BIG unions taking money from the bosses and letting workers suffer, and letting poor folks sit in ER waiting rooms and DIE because they don’t have the “right” medical insurance, politics and the law, poor black people will report theirs. DAMMIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are several states with higher unemployment rates than CA and RI, and the rates are higher in those states than what you reported – http://www.bls.gov/web/laumstrk.htm

I agree, turn in the cheaters, then vote the criminals out of office!

Are you suggesting that if Welfare fraud were to be wiped out, the financial problems California faces, would be eliminated? substantially reduced? Miss Michelle, the $8mil you speak of is a drop in the bucket of the billions of dollars in deficit for that state. California like many other states and the federal government is rife with fraud. I recently heard an economist say, that the Operating system of this global economy is fraud. There is NEVER justification for theft, but to demonize these struggling families trying to make ends meet, with fraud allegations, while Trillions (WITH A T) are being stolen by people who already possess great wealth at the expense of the masses, is way off base, and all I can say is, good luck trying to get _A_ to file a report on welfare abuse!
