Donnie McClurkin Controversy Spreads

“God did not call young people to such perversion. Society has failed him, his church has failed him … I would be homosexual to this day if Jesus hadn’t delivered. I see feminine men, feminine boys, everywhere I go … No, don’t applaud ‘cuz it ain’t funny. It’s because we failed. I see them everywhere. These young girls are just as bad as the boys in homosexuality, you don’t see it. They can hide … but there are some evil young hard butch girls.”- Donnie McClurkin
Once in a while a controversial sermon bubbles up and becomes a hot button discussion. Donnie McClurkin’s sermon has become not just a hot button but a full on table discussion raging across the net and at worship sites. Discussions have been been peppered with statements made by Donnie McClurkin. Mr. McClurkin is a member of The Church of God in Christ (COGIC), the largest African American Pentecostal church in the United States. He was preaching at a COGIC’s 102nd Holy Convocation International Youth Department Worship Service on November 7. Yes, while what he said is completely covered under freedom of speech, it does bring up the question on how we choose our words. Those words often lead to people looking at your leadership with questioning eyes. In particular, when you name a famous fellow pastor as target of your missive you are asking for controversy. The homosexuality controversy in black faith communities is nothing new. This story began with an on camera admission from Tonex. In response to that on camera admission Donnie McClurkin has seen fit to minister and educate the youth of his flock as follows:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7hcRHrTpYh8
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3PWB4aDSHU
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dY_tIkP2BIs
The responses to the above statement were varied but strong:
- “Let’s not get so caught up in our righteous indignation that we forget about these young folks. If we do, expect to see more Donnie McClurkins springing up like ecclesiastical weeds.”- A McEwen author Holy Bullies and Headless Monsters
- “He actually said something the rest of us have been preaching for a while, just not that good.” – Name withheld
- ‘Thank the LORD that Pastor McClurkin was obedient to the Holy Ghost. Thank GOD that he’s a changed man and is not afraid to share his testimony — obviously a lot of people in that room (and watching it now) needed to hear it.”- Mr. Lavarai a COGIC member
It’s an odd finger pointing action since Donnie McClurkin admits in his autobiography that he “once had homosexual tendencies and am now cured”. These two black gospel singers have become the centerpiece to the debate of the role homosexuals should play in black faith communities. Unfortunately, both men’s lives influence dozens of others as pastors. They are tied very financially to a community that does not approve of alternative lifestyles. Yet, both these men have carved a space in gospel music. They each acknowledge their desires. Tonéx by stating that his preference is for the same sex; Donnie by (abstaining and) persecuting other homosexuals as not being willing to be delivered from “the perversion of homosexuality.” Where do you stand on this subject?

It never ceases to amaze me at how ’saintly’ and ‘pious’ most of the so called Christians (including McKlurkin) can be. Have any of you really read the Bible? The Bible speaks of so many things that are abominations and out right sins. However, most ‘Christians’ seem to “cherry pick” on what sin weighs more than others. Try Googling ‘biblical abominations’ and see what you get. Who did Jesus turn away? What would Jesus REALLY do? Didn’t He come to save the ENTIRE world? Or did he come to save the precious few of you that can only see the sin of others. We ALL need God and we ALL need prayer, forgiveness, and deliverance on a DAILY basis. Try reading your bible for yourselves and stop being spoon fed be so-called pastors and do the bible says…”study to show thyself approved.” And one more thing…”there is NONE righteous…no not one…”…this includes McKlurkin and his sheep. As one person wrote…he has the right to “condemn”…Really? I thought that God was the ONLY judge. Lastly, one young man said that “it is wrong…God has spoke it.” What else does God speak of in the Bible to be wrong? Does anyone here know the history of the Bible or religion? Ever study beyond what is spewed across the pulpit or what Grandma said? Again, Google biblical abominations or biblical sins and see how many are applicable to your OWN life and then let’s see how judgmental you are when the fingers are pointing in your direction. The greatest of all commandments is LOVE…without that…nothing else that you do matters. Are you fellow CHRISTIANS showing love? Trust God! He’s the ONLY way!
Pastor McClurkin has every right to condemn homosexuality, whether it’s male or female participating in the act. I didn’t read anywhere where he condemned the person doing the act. We are all sinners saved by grace. If someone was a murderer and Pastor McClurkin spoke up on that subject, we wouldn’t be having this conversation because everyone can agree murder is wrong. Almighty God Himself set down the rules not Pastor McClurkin. Jesus didn’t condemn the people he healed from their various afflictions of gambling, prostitution, w***emongering, murder, theft, and other sins. He delivered them… by the word of GOD. Now I understand if you don’t believe in God, because then you will not understand this post. But for those of us that do, we will pray for you.
IT IS WRITTEN!!! SO IT DOESNT MATTER ABOUT OPINIONS or VIEWS!!! STOP PLAYIN!!!

I’m still waiting for Donnie McClurkin to show up with a lady or girlfriend. When will this happen? Talking all this cured talk, but no woman by his side yet…
I am so glad that Donnie McClurkin has come to a place of realization and healing in his life…no matter how late the arrival.
I guess you got to be a Christian who wants to hear the truth and nothing short of it to agree with him. His message is important for the youth to hear as he himself has been down that road.
People just twist things around and make it how they want to preceive it. smh That
s all folks.
All he is doing is trying to help the kingdom of God out. It’s not right he was telling others “the ones who r sitting back letting it go on with no care about it” I’m just saying. Please don’t be so deep till you can’t swim to the top and hear what he’s trying to say. duhhh
To Dark_Singularity
Please explain how we are being prejudgmental? What ,in your view, is the definition of Pre-judging/ Prejudice? What do you mean by “So Judgmental”? No one is saying, “Lets go Lynch all the homos, lets deny them their basic human-rights”. This thread is about the growing trend of homosexuality, so we are speaking on it. They can do whatever they want, my only complaint is that people, not just homosexuals are making choices these days with no consideration of the consequences. However to answer your question; If there was no religion then, no, I wouldn’t have as strong a view against people trying to make a mockery out of it. But there is.
This is ridiculous that people use the bible and religion to justify their own silly prejudices. Be real, tell the truth, without the religion would you be so judgemental?
Well, it is a well-known fact to those that have read the Bible, that homosexuality is sin, but let’s not forget that fornication, lying, stealing are also sins. I agree with Donnie’s statement;it is true, however putting emphasis on just one sin, is not fair considering ALL sins are weighted equally. We can’t just point a finger at a person who chooses to be homosexual. What about those who fornicate, or lie and steal? While it is o.k. to emphasize something that we as Christians should work on, let’s not forget the other sins. But just think about it: what would have been the debate if Donnie spoke out about fornication? Would there even be a debate? Truth hurts. Sometimes though, we need the truth.
If Someone wants to be gay that’s their business,I could care less,Donnie needs to stop acting on stage.
I believe that people are upset over what he said because it was the truth. For so long we have had the tendency to cover up so much and try to hide everything. Some things God wants us to on the altar so that others can see that if God delivered me, He can deliver you. It is time out for hiding behind such issues and let’s be real for real. We holla “keep it real” all the time but as soon as someone does, here comes the stones. Which one do you really want: Keep covering stuff up or actually get free for real?
Oh please, he’s a tortured homosexual himself.
1 Corinthians 6:9 NIV 9Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders.sounds pretty plain to me yes it is wrong for God has spoke it
He is Just expressing how GOD feels about our Sins, and how it is now existing without any restraint. There used to be a time when people kept their personal sins to themselves and to God, but now everyone seems to not care or even really recognize God at all. GOD Still HATES Sin. He Loves the sinner but Not the Sin. Therefore We as His children must also come to Hate Sin and at the same time LOVE the Sinner. THE CHURCH MUST COME to the point where it is sure that it does not Promote Sin in any Fashion. This includes idolatry as well as adultery. [LOVE and Worship of any THING or person outside of CHRIST JESUS(GOD).] This is what we must teach our children as well, That All things we are involved in Must Begin and End with God. If not then what we do is pointless and it is of Satan and Hell-bound.
I get so tired of hearing arguments about whether or not God loves homosexuals. Thats not even the issue. So stop using that as your(homosexuals) argument. Did your mother stop loving you when she spanked that a$$ for doing something she told you not to do? But yet you still got punished right? The issue is what are the consequences of sin which is what homosexuality is on numerous levels. God called it “an abomination, unnatural, wicked, immoral etc, etc”. Don’t kill the messenger, for while I am not Homosexual, I am not without sin so I cast no stones. The difference is I acknowledge fully within my heart what my sins are and are therefore forgiven of them. If you can’t even see the “sickness” how will you know to search for a cure? If your not Christian then I’m not talking to you, carry on. This is for the Christians who bear this particular cross and won’t even acknowledge the weight on their backs.
Donnie is a awesome man of God!!! There is no man walking this earth that is with out sin. Ill put it in lamemen so even the ignant can understand and I really dont care how you take it(thats your choice) , who cares what color race gender denomination you are the truth is the truth period dot. Every thing on this earth was made to reproduce (mathematically, astrologically, physically, mentally, scientifically, historically etc.) If you are not reproducing growing thin something is wrong. Failure has nothing to do with God ,God never fails, no man can stop his will. And for that I am thankful. We may not be able to understand all that is going on but it is written. I have a huge problem with people who dont study facts but always have something to say. We have got to educate our selves and stop giving every one authority over our lives, we have got to realize that there are consequences for our actions and for not taking action. Know nothing is exempt from Gods judgment. Thank God for it being a controversy cause other wise the word would not get out there.
For me im like this if u choose a to be gay or straight thats fine. But if u say “Oh god made me this way” i dont think thats right. I dont recall anything in the bible that says being gay is a sin or nothin it just says “you wont be able to reproduce” (i think) anyway.if your homosexual and you know god find with me be who you are be what you want to be. There are gay ministers, preachers in Los Angeles ppl at their church know that and they still love them for who they are..N donnie do kinda look like he was on da fruit side jus sayin…
ANYWHO! im happy they not blamin hiphop:)
All religions are judge mental, hateful, communists, and murders Its just that America has adjusted religion with civil rights laws over time or as Malcom x called it human rights. Just think if everyone was given a chance to kill some people for one day with no consequence who would kill the most people? THE RELIGIOUS! Its proven every day in the middle east, Philippines, Kosovo, Ireland, Somalia, Africa ETC. Look at fort Hood, The abortion doctors murdered. Prostitutes in NC. the Holocaust, look up Catholic rulers history, slaughtered millions all over religion. Wake up from the fairy tales Bros. An Ancient white man wrote these holy books and rewrote them over and over including the Quran to benefit them not Asians,Blacks, Indians, or women. Especially women you are a nothing! a slave, sexual toy to men in the name of religion.
Not sure where you received your education, but I think you should step outside of those walls and do some on your own. For you to blame Islam or any other religion for that matter, for the issues happening in many countries in Africa is ludicrous. All those problems are manifestations of decades of colonial rule, which still exists today. I defend Islam because following the true word of God is the only way this world will be able to be corrected. Man is inherently flawed and can’t be relied upon to effectively govern himself. Therefore a supreme knowledge wisdom and understanding will be needed. If you don’t believe in God then there is no need in us continuing on. If you do believe in God, but are anti Islam, again, no need to continue. I would like to get your thoughts on the actual article that was posted though!
_A_:
Why are you defending Islam? Islam has nothing to do with black people…I tell black people to get an education, forget about Islam or religion…What has Islam ever done for black people? This religion is all over Africa and it has brought violence, backwardness, oppression and poverty… Just take a look at what Islam is doing to black Africa, do you want to be like them? Come on…You are in the greatest country on earth and you can get an education and be whatever you want, why are you defending this religion? Please…
JB…You are so way off base on so many levels its difficult to know where to start. I will say this to you. Slavery on this continent and the west indies is unequivocally the WORSE form of slavery in history. Keep in mind, slavery is slavery, and its brutal where ever you find it, but its a kNOWN fact that the slavery among those tribes had some semblance of civility due to the fact it was a back and forth process. HOWEVER, there was never any reciprocity with slavery here in America so there was never a hint of the civility in this process. If you were to do some studying though, you would find that slavery wasn’t even the worse part, but in fact the slave making process was one of the most inhumane forms of treatment by one group on another. Your scope of study in this area is embarrassingly narrow and I suggest you do some real studying and stop using movies and TV doc**entaries as your reference material.
To _A_:
Have you ever heard of the Arab slave trade? It was the worst possible slave trade ever and more africans died than in the Atlantic Slave trade. There were slave markets in Zanzibar and the East Coast of Africa to the Arab World…
I think you are the one who is confused between muslim and Islam…They all come from the same source…and their roots are in Saudi Arabia…
You dont need to take my word for it…Just look at what is going today in the Sudan…This religion has only produced violence, backwardness, and oppression…
@TarveniaJones, thanks for your comments. First off, what you are describing is a confusion among MUSLIMS not ISLAM. So in Christianity a teaching that God loves everybody can be construed as loving everyone no matter what you do, or God accepts everyone. This and many other ambiguous teachings can be argued in Christianity, but I don’t care how many different sects of Islam there are out there, NOT one will ever attempt to justify homosexuality. You just can’t find it anywhere among the 1.3B muslims in the world, yet the Christian church struggles daily with this issue. Abortion is another one!
Lastly, when you speak of Muslims blowing themselves and others up in the name of their God, you are talking about people who have lost all hope and have decided that striking such a blow is there last chance at getting people to recognize their rights to live as human beings. When a people are collectively denied HUMAN RIGHTS and are treated like animals, it will eventually make people act in an insane manner. That which you speak of is the manifestation of their insanity, NOT the religion!
@JB Handsome,
Your comments shows how ignorant you are towards this religion, and there is no doubt in my mind that your opinion has been formed by a heavy dose of Hollywood, CNN and the BBC. Secondly, I never actually suggested anyone convert to Islam, I suggested in their attempts to seek out something bigger than themselves, to consider Islam and hopefully, they won’t be as close minded as you have been made. I used the word “made” intentionally! I have bad news for you Mr. Handsome man, you are and have been a slave your entire life!
I dont see why someone would suggest blacks convert to Islam…It is a backward religion which oppresses many people around the world today and promotes violence…
Millions of black Africans were enslaved in the name of Islam, their land were taken and they suffered great violence…A lot of blacks are unaware that there was a slave trade before the Atlantic slave trade…The worst slavery ever was done in the name of Islam…
Today, there is still slavery in Africa in some muslim countries…
To _A_
I grew up with a Muslim father and a Christian mother…so your statement that there is no confusion in Islam is so far from the truth that it ain’t even funny! If there was no confusion in Islam why are some Muslims killing in the name of Allah while others preach against it? Get your facts straight and please stop bashing the church simply because you practice a different religion. At least be aware that there are people on this site who are familiar with different religions. And for your information I’ve met gay Muslims…do some research before you post!
The church had difficult times attracting strong young TRUE black men anyway. This will all but kill that!!!! I suggest anyone seeking a higher power, seek out Islam. The black church is full of confusion trying to make evil, fair seeming! There is no confusion concerning homosexuality or anything else in Islam. The church seems to be overrun with this issue and that is a damned shame!
