The Atlanta Housewives Show Us How To Not Behave

All of our television is basically reality driven. Surely, by now you have seen the “Housewives Series”. This brand of series follows women all across the country in what we consider to be the most affluent neighborhoods in our country. You sit for an hour and tune in to grown women whining about their bodies, shopping habits husband and boyfriends. Unfortunately the reality in reality is that we are watching the monster of affluence. The Housewives of Atlanta has spun itself off in to chain that is often more scandalous than any of us can imagine. Each day we hear a different story of one of these housewives branding themselves with identities of grandeur. Sure, I watch them. Sometimes I watch them just to see what can possibly happen next.
Last weekend we all saw on the news the story the tragedy of the murder of a young lady by a young man both of whom had been cast on one of these shows. I watched the casting director on the Larry King show explain why she chose the young man She said very simply, we pick people who are going to make good television. What does that mean in plain English? It means they pick the person that the camera not only loves but who is the biggest personality. In the few scenes that have been shown you could see the narcissism come through the screen. This is true of every one of the shows. The Housewives of Atlanta eliminated one housewife because there just wasn’t any controversy surrounding her. What we are left with are very good lessons in how not to behave.
1- Don’t gossip- Kim, Nene, Lisa and Sheree are constantly playing the “he say …she say” game. These are grown women.
2- Don’t ever do something without first planning it through. Sheree launch her clothing line with no clothes. This sparked the question repeated throughout the episode, “Who does that?”
3- Not everyone is your friend. Kim learned this first hand when her buddy Sheree resulted into a swearing and fighting tirade outside a restaurant.
4- Family Lies always come out. Nene’s struggle with her DNA testing proved we all need to be careful how we live within our family walls.
And my favorite Lesson
5- There is a way to act like a lady. Screaming and yelling results in embarrassment. We see Sheree’s need to fight and swear only show how not to act like a lady.

I still can’t figure out how you bring your man into the reality show and you know you are messing with a married man. What did I miss.
First off, let me just admit to being an ATL housewife junkie. I like to watch the show because it’s entertaining to watch other people argue over stupid/petty things, and it makes me realize that my family isn’t so bad after all. Lol. Now, to ms. ria40…check your facts before you try to down play someone’s contributions. This list is a fantastic one and you’d know that if you had researched the good that everyone on this list has done, and not just judged them on the careers that they have, or had. You don’t have to like Michelle or Kelly, but they’re still getting paid to do what they love, even if it means that they don’t have to sing back up to Beyonce anymore. And how about checking out the charity works they’re involved in. Justine can whine all she wants because she has a godly man by her side to listen to her complain about any and everything and he still stands by her and loves her for who she is. They’re raising their family together and the right way. People might say those kids are spoiled, but they can’t deny that they don’t work hard and respect, and love, each other and their parents the way a family is supposed to. And as for Hill Harper, not only is he a black man making his mark on a successful television show that has nothing to do with how much Gucci or Prada he can afford, but he has written TWO inspirational books to empower young black men and young black women to love and respect. So dive a little deeper into the actual inspiring deeds that those on this list have done/are doing, and you’ll see why these people are an inspiration to people’s lives. And try checking out Lakuwanna Blues and the impact that it had in the entertainment world and the lives that the movie was based on, you’d be surprised…
Who came up with this list??? You need to rethink your list. What inspiring has Hil Harper done as well as Amerie, Rev. Run and Justine(all she does is whine whine what is inspiring about a whiner??!!)Starr Jones inspired us on how to marry a gay man…Gayle King the coattail rider she inspired us on how to earn a living off your friends if you can’t do it on your own,Omarion-how to take off your shirt, Michelle Williams inspire us to try to carry a note when you can’t ditto with Kelly Rowland…do your homework next time and you had the audacity to have Hil Harper on the list twice. Choose better next time. Actually get inspirational people.
First of all, I want to thank you Oretha for taking the time to pen your thoughts. As a Black Man, I am probably not this show’s target audience. But I would like to render my opinion. I have only seen this show once; I have heard countless comments about its over-abundance of low-mindedness and Drama. I cannot nor will not support any show – or any source of “entertainment” – that paints us in a derogatory light. We have all worked too hard to lift ourselves up, only to have shows like this one portray us so negatively. We should bear in mind that this show – as with most shows on this level – is only an over-dramatized hyperextension of us being on our worst behavior. It is not at all who we are on the larger scale. It is solely built to increase its viewership so that the TV station producers can sell advertising time to hair care companies, toothpaste companies, fast food companies, etc. This show – and others like it – is not created to edify us. If we really want to do something about this, then don’t watch the show, and ask a friend not to watch it. Find another program to watch at that time slot, or – better yet – turn off the TV, read a nice book, or spend some time with friends and family. Not watching the show will decrease its viewership, making the show’s producers less able to sell advertising time to companies. If they cannot get advertising revenue, then the show will eventually be bounced around from timeslot to timeslot to station to station, until it is eventually dropped. Problem Solved. Most importantly, please know that this is not a true representation of our Black Women. Because I know for a fact that the African American Women is truly a Queen. Deep down inside, when the lights are off and the camera stops rolling, I am certain that these Atlanta Housewives know this as well.
I really enjoyed the show at first but the teaming up on each other is a bit much and Ne Ne and Sheree teaming against Kim without her knowledge was totally unfair.
I like Ne Ne very much because she is down to earth and the name of the clothing line is just over the top. Like so many reality shows there is little redeeming value in the show like Bridzilla’s it becomes very cheesy and the name calling and putting each other down on a regular basis is very unrefined, as women we have enough roadblocks in front of us – this is a SHEREE CHARADE, another reminder that having money does not mean you get to flaunt talking behind someone’s back and teaming up on other people no matter the race oe being two faced or just mean spirited.
More will be revealed.
I AM SORRY I CANNOT AGREE WITH THE STATEMENT THAT THE HOUSE WIVES OF ATLANTA ARE CONSIDERED “UNLADY LIKE” I MEAN WE AS WOMEN GO THROUGH THINGS IN THIS WORLD ENOUGH AS IT IS SO SOCIETY SHOULDN’T JUDGE US FOR HOW THEY MAY PORTRAY US IN REAL LIFE. ALL OF THESE LADIES HAVE SOMETHING DIFFERENT TO OFFER US ON THE SHOW AND IN MY EYES THEY COME FROM DIFFERENT BACKGROUNDS AND UP BRINGINGS. WHILE I THINK “NE-NE” IS A BIT LOUD AND SOMETIME JUDGE MENTAL SHE IS BEING HERSELF. MY FAVS ARE KHANDI AND LISA (NOW TELL ME THEIR NOT CLASSY AND PRETTY I MAY ADD?) SO BEFORE WE JUDGE PEOPLE WE NEED TO STOP AND THINK OR LOOK AT OUR SELF. THEY ARE HANDLING THEIRS WHICH ALOT OF US CAN’T SAY SO “YOU GO GIRLS” (BY THE WAY I LOVE HOW KIM INTERACTS WITH HER DAUGHTERS- THANKS FOR KICKING OUT THE NANNY!) AND THE PICS OF MICHELLE AND MRS. PATTY LABELLE WERE GREAT, MUCH LOVE!
I AGREE WITH EVERY BODY THAT POSTED AN OPINION, FROM WHAT I’VE SEEN SO FAR THE MAIN PROBLEM IS NE NE, EVERY BODY ELSE HAVE HAD TO DEFEND THEM SELVES WITH HER, FIRST SHE WENT AT IT WITH SHEREE, THEN KIM, AND NOW IT’S KANDI. I SUSPECT BY THE END OF THE SHOW, SHE WILL HAVE GONE AT IT WITH LISA. I SEE NE NE AS A BULLY AND A INSTIGATOR, KIM DO SAY THINGS WITHOUT THINKING FIRST THAT THE PERSON SHE’S TALKING TO IS GOING TO GO BACK AND SAY SHE SAID WHAT EVER, LISA AND SHEREE ARE FOLLOWERS – WHAT EVER NE NE SAY LETS DO, THEY DO. KANDI IS JUST COOL, SHE HAVEN’T DONE ANY THING YET BUT DEFEND HER SELF FROM THE BULLY, AND DID A DAMN GOOD JOB OF IT. THEY ALL SHOULD GANG UP ON NE NE JUST TO SEE HOW SHE HANDLE IT, THAT WOULD BE GREAT.
OMG I NEVER KNEW SUPPOSE TO BE PEOPLE WITH A LIL MONEY HAD SO MUCH FREE TIME ON THEIR HANDS TO KEEP SO MUCH SHE SAY, SHE SAY GOING. I AM JUST SO SICK OF NE NE, GOING AROUND STIRRING UP STUFF, BUT I GUESS THAT MAKES THE SHOW. BUT ONE THING I DO KNOW IS THAT SHE NEEDS TO TAKE CARE OF THAT DENTAL WORK(MISSING TEETH) BEFORE SHE GO AROUND TALKING ABOUT KANDI NOT BEING ABLE TO SING..HONESTLY I THINK SHE MAY BE A LITTLE JEALOUS OF THEM ALL….JUST MY OPINION
This show is total bulls**t,it baffles me that quality black shows like “Everybody hates chris”,”Lincoln Heights”,and “The Game” get cancelled.Where as shows that dont represent us in the best light, like “Real housewives of atlanta gets picked up for season after season.Im out.
I agree with all of you however, yall know dang well yall would not watch this show if it didn’t include drama! Lets be real!
By way of agreeing with you on how to not act..I have to say that this type of behavior is acted out not only by black woman so please don’t get it twisted. Hispanic woman will cut you with any size knife they can find if crossed, white woman are sneeky as snakes and will be the first to pop off at the mouth if you cross them, (and take your man..if he has money), and the list goes on with any woman who has hormones. So please, stop it! Black woman are just that. Black and a woman.
This show of course shows us how not to act. However, at one point ladies, we have all had our day in the I’ll be dammned season. So again, I will say…Stop it! I am a black woman and I am proud of it. I have my day in the “out there” frame of mind too. And so do you.
No. I am not saying that it is alright to act out and misbehave but you will NOT put it all on being a black woman.
Let us do remember that this is a show. It’s intent is to make money. And if it helps us “BLACK WOMAN” to see how we really DO act, then it is a good thing to view the show. Some of us “ALL RACES OF WOMAN” need to see ourselves played out so that we can ..”STOP!”
We first..need to stop putting each other down. It happens to be uglier than these ladies are portraying for us. Kudos to the writer’s of the show for showing us ourselves behind the veil….
I agree, ladies. I wonder if they ever keep in mind that as women, they represent us all. As we all know, we have a very present ‘ghost’ out here about black women. These sistas have proven that black women are full of drama, are loud, rude and inconsiderate of others. For those that don’t act this way, this is an outrage. This is one reason I don’t have many female friends. Who the hell wants friends who act like that??
I AGREE WITH YOU ON THAT, THEY ALL ACT LIKE THEY DONT HAVE ANY KIND OF COMMON SENSE EXCEPT FOR KANDI…..THE FEW EPISODES IVE SEEN WITH HER IN IT SHE SEEMS TO BE THE ONLY “REAL” ONE …….
LOL..FOR THEM TO BE LIVING LARGE….THEY ARE SOME GHETTO ASS WOMEN…EXCEPT FOR KANDI…THAT’S MY BABY RIGHT THERE…SINCE WAY BACK….THE WHITE CHICK IS A NOODLE…NE-NE IS A CLOWN AND THE OTHER TWO ARE JUST NOT PLAYING WITH A FULL DECK OF CARDS…..
