Where Are You When Your Friends Really Need You?

Can you rel8 to this?

A friend of mine lost his best friend of 26 years.  From the sounds of it, it was sudden.  He was recently married and I believe there is a baby on the way.  Before he could even post any update on Facebook about what took place, the condolences were already pouring in.  I followed suit, not knowing much of anything, but I wanted him to know that I was praying for him.  He later updated his status sharing his sorrow.  He sounded weak and tired.  But it seemed the one thing that gave him strength was his description of  how a couple of his “friends” had taken the liberty to prepare his home for him upon his arrival so that he could simply rest.  They cooked and cleaned, handled his business dealings–all of the things that he wouldn’t have had the strength to do simply because he was/is grieving, they did them.  No fanfare…no pomp and circumstance…they just did it.  I was moved beyond words at that display of friendship.  It spoke volumes to me.

I don’t have anything profound to say beyond that.  I think that display of love is enough.  Where are you when your friends really need you?  Hmph!

My best friend and I have been friends for over 25 yrs now, since we were 9 and 10 yrs old! That is a long time to care for someone. I can count on one hand ( maybe even less than 5 fingers) how many arguments we have had in that time, and we have never had an actual fight! We have been there for one another through relationship, friendships with other people, tragedy, good times, bad times, etc. We have never attended same schools, (different elementary, jhs, h.s, and even colleges) but our the friendship has endured. Her son is my godson, and when I have a child she will be the godmother! Our mothers are the best of friends! We hang out , travel, together, remember birthdays and holidays, etc ! I know that if I ever needed her she’s be there for me, and I’d do the same for her! A best friend is truly a wonderful thing!
