Kobe Can’t Win

By Jason Burrell June 23, 2009 5:00 am

“The soul of a lazy man desires, and has nothing; But the soul of the diligent shell be made rich” says Proverbs 13:4

Kobe Bryant can’t win without?  You fill in the blank.  Shaq? Another Superstar? What’s next? He can’t win without Phil?

This time last year he was being laughed at by his peers for being blown out by 39 points in Boston and the “Big Hater” himself Shaq who piled on with a sophomoric hip-hop freestyle attacking Kobe’s man hood would receive a high-five from the rest of the Kobe haters. But nevertheless, Kobe comes back using for mention as motivation to win and quiet his critics and he did!!! With a gold medal to boot I might add.  I can list all of his accomplishment but why bother some one else will find another reason to hate. It’s just shocking to me that in a society were hard work is praised and applauded and foolishness is looked down upon.

However, when it comes to Kobe it’s glossed over by mainstream society and in the same breath the Allen Iverson’s, the Shaq’s and all the other “Keep it real” athletes are looked upon as role models. Don’t think for one second that I don’t like A.I. because I do!  The boy is better than a double cheeseburger on an empty stomach, with McDonalds fries. Yet, he still does not max out his God given talents like Kobe Bryant, Bill Gates, Michael Jordan and Cal Ripken just to name a few. So, when you see pictures of Kobe Bryant raising the Larry O’ Brian Trophy in victory give him his props and celebrate the fact that he is reaping the benefits of what he diligently sought after. You can even use it as a teaching moment for kids and ask them why do you think Kobe is so good?  Or you can use another player to that happen to win six rings in Chicago.

For Example, my son received a “B” on his math test and his teacher (Who is from Chicago by the way) called my son “Kobe” until he took his next test. When I asked him why did his teacher call him that he said “Because I am not good enough to be called Jordan”.  I thought that was very funny but true!  My son thought otherwise. So, by the end of the next week I picked up MJ from school and took him out for some Ice Cream, because all the hard work he put in during the week paid off on his next test.

I will concede congratulations to the L.A Lakers for this years’ victory BUT, the 2009 Finals was scripted. A hollow victory, not that the Lakers did not play hard, and not because the Magic could not rise to the challenge, but because the league did everything in it’s power to ensure that that Lakers made it to the big dance, just as it tried to do for the Cavs, who didn’t have enough team to justify the victories. Denver was clearly a better team in the playoffs than the Lakers, but could not get past the “run-killing” officials. Everytime Denver built a big lead, the whistles began to blow and the lead was crushed.
Coach Karl complained, and was fined $25K – your standard “shut-up” fine. The Nuggets gave up after realizing that the league was not going to let them advance over the team with the moviestars at their courtside. It all make for a big sham. The best team cannot win in this league, the best MARKET can.

Kobe is not disliked because of his skills. He is disliked because of his personality, attitude and disrespect. People do not like the way he mistreated his parents and allowed his non-black wife to treat them. They do not like the way he did not show proper respect to and for Michael Jordan and other NBA players. He also has the personality of a rock. Those are the main reasons he is disliked.

It’s so ridiculous how people go out of their way to hate…It’s just pure jealousy and it’s kind of sad…no matter what you do, nothing you do is good enough for others but you have to know that when you accomplish something, you have to do it for yourself because to some people no matter what you accomplish you are damned if you do, damned if you don’t. I am a big Kobe Bryant and the Lakers. Congrats Kobe for your accomplishments…I certainly appreciate you..
