I once had to struggle with this subject as well, but i thank God cos he showed me the ligth.
PPl always attach tithing to the old testament, even further some believe its attached to the laws given by moses to the isrealites (levits inclusive). so if we were not been held by the law, we are under no obligation to tithe?
Well the good news is this, tithe came even before the Law, according to the bible Abraham was the first to tithe ( to the king of salem) and this is confirmed both in the old testament and new testament , therefore i believe that if abraham tithed, every christian – as a child of abraham is obligated to tithe.

i heard tithes was for the Levite preists….

im not sayin that SOME churches dont use the money for basic stuff like lights/water/rent for the church-building and helping the needy…..

but TODAY alotta churches are 501-C (corporations that dont pay taxes), cash money EVERY sunday !!!

Your success in life may not be what God wants for you. Remember, Jesus was a very poor man finaically. But because he had compassion so should you. God doesnt need our money. He wants our obedience. he says in malachi bring tithes so there will be meat. (no money) in my house. The money supplies the chuch. When Arron became the first priest he didnt have land or money or a job or cattle so the church had to supply, that is what God said in the book of leviticus. Keep reading Bro it gets deeper. Love ya man, but I gotta go.

Thanks to everyone for the update, but I think we need not stop here. Lets check the Old Test. for Yah`s word on it all. To me money has nothing to do with it, you should give what you have whether it is time, cloths, garden goods, things on this line. Why is money so important to Yah( God )????? I understand the up-keep of a building, but that should be what it is called, or for just the building not the pastors pockets.Also, if someone truly needs then give, why ask, use your wisdom for that. Do not turn down people in need, would you want Yah to turn you down on what you may need???????? Come my brothers, an sisters lets put the word of Yah to work READ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

People in church neva talk about these issues always had a problem wit tha givin part because the ppl @ my church (pastor & ppl around him)live a luscious life while we still struggle 2 pay our bills Sad 2 say but recently i became an atheist after being in church my whole life

For years I have waited for someone to publically talk about tithes, and the institution of tithing as it relates to the New Testament Church. I have conducted studies on the subject and have presented it to Pastors and Church members alike and I have yet to have one disagree, but they say, “we can’t teach that tithing as it is carried out in the New Testament Church is incorrect”. I would love to be able to use this stage for a real discussion on this subject. I applaud the author of this article having courage to announce the truth.
I think it stems from Christians depending on the word being spoken to them instead of studying to show themselves approved unto God, workmen that needeth not be ashamed RIGHTLY dividing the WORD of TRUTH. Study the words tithe, tithing, and tenth. Find the scriptures where these words appear from Genesis to Revelations, and then answer these questions, 1. Who 2. What 3. Where 4. When 5. Why and 6. How. Using the gathered verses, and I promise you will view New Testament Church tithing differently. You will need a good Bible Refference book and Bible Dictionary. Be encouraged to know that God is and He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Be Blessed!!
