VIDEO: A Diva Living With AIDS- Rae Lewis Thornton

On June 27, many local health centers, churches and community organizations across the country held events for National HIV Testing Day. This important day was designated to make people more aware and to get tested to know their status. However, the mission continues each day to educate and make people aware of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Elev8 will feature remarkable advocates and outstanding people who are fighting and raising their voices in our communities to touch and saves lives.
Rae Lewis Thornton is living with AIDS. In 1986, she surprisingly discovered she was HIV positive after volunteering to donate blood at the local DC Red Cross center. She was only 23 years old. Taking a bold step, Thornton made the decision to speak out about HIV/AIDS and was featured in Essence Magazine in 1994. Since that time, she has become an activist and goes across the country speaking to people about HIV/AIDS.

Hats off to Rae she did the right thing of being true to herself first, it doesnt matter how she got AIDS she was honest enough to tell her then partner. God bless u continually and keep motivating all of us.
God Bless this woman. She is very brave and kind to herself instead of falling victim to depression, and despair.
I pray for her and others like her fighting this incurable epidemic disease. How sad sex is soo glamourized these days.
She is a strong woman and she’s here cause she has a story to tell, real life.It happened to her and she has made it out of a positive thing to tell those who have’nt had sex what could happen to them. She is so full of life. Her husband was defintely sent to her by the one and only.
I recall reading her stpory yrs ago! Glad shes still alive and going well. Aids does not have to be a death sentence. There are many people living with it.
I remember I had this article when I was in school. She’s such a strong woman.
