When Bishop Gibson founded the church in 1987, it had a mere nine members. Over the last 24 years, he’s grown the flock to more than 4,500. Indeed, he’s proven a master of getting the word out, and “Preachers of L.A.” won’t mark Bishop Gibson’s first time on TV. For 10 years, the Life Church of God sponsored “Living in Fullness Everyday,” a program that aired nationwide and in several other countries.
Who is Bishop Gibson, other than a pastor charismatic enough to land a spot on a show like “The Preachers of L.A.”? Ron Gibson boasts what viewers might deem one of the show’s most intriguing backgrounds. The Compton native was addicted to drugs as a pre-teen, according to an Oxygen press release, and he later served as a leader of the notorious Crips street gang. He was apparently a “robber and a pimp,” but luckily, he cleaned up his act and found the lord. He was licensed as a minister in 1981 and ordained as an elder bishop in 1982. In between, he married LaVette Delene Beamon, who will likely also factor on “Preachers of L.A.”

“Through it all he’s accumulated great wealth, power and purpose,” reads the official “Preachers of L.A.” press release. “However, there’s one thing he and his wife would give it all away for—a child.”
Who is Bishop Ron Gibson? The answer, it seems, is complex. The soon-to-be reality star is a former gangbanger with a massive ministry and rags-to-riches life story. He’s “a living example of God’s delivering power,” according to his website, and yet for all of his success, Bishop Gibson and his wife lack satisfaction in at least one area of their lives. On “The Preachers of L.A.,” that will likely form the basis of his story arc, though we won’t know for sure until the show hits the air.
