And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.— Colossians 3:23 KJV
My father, Odessa Claybrooks, was a wise man. He used to say things like, “If a man gives you a job mopping the floor do your best because, performing that job well will likely lead to a better job in the future.”
Too often on our journey we look down on what we describe as tasks that are beneath us. We often don’t give our best efforts because we hate our current jobs, while fantasizing about our dream job. Despite our poor effort, we expect excellent compensation and great benefits followed by promotion. This is what I call wrong-headed thinking.
If God personally hired you for a task I doubt your efforts would slack. I believe you would look your best, show up on time and do your best. Guess what? This is what he expects even when his name isn’t on our W-2 form. God wants us to work like we were doing the job for God himself.
Excellence never goes out of style. Great people are always looking to add great workers to their team. Do your job like you’re doing it for God. You won’t go unnoticed.
