Dallas Cowboys cheerleader Armani Latimer (23) is redefining beauty.

To raise alopecia awareness, she took on a new look, performing without her wig at the Dec. 9th game (Cowboys v. Bengals).

Latimer spoke with Women’s Health about struggles of her diagnosis, the pressure of combating beauty standards, and her self-discovery journey:

“I figure that if I can overcome my negative self-talk and self-defeating mindset, I can help change the experience for the next 12-year-old who gets diagnosed. She can start healing early instead of waiting until she’s 23, like me. There’s so much societal pressure that comes with being a woman—we don’t need more.” –Armani Latimer

Alopecia Areata is an autoimmune disease that happens when the immune system attacks hair follicles, causing hair loss. This common skin disease can cause hair loss from the body (head and face especially). About 2% of people across the world will experience alopecia areata at some point in their lifetime, according to the National Alopecia Areata Foundation.

The video has since gone viral with fans and admirers flooding the comments with encouraging words and reposts.
