A new campaign has been launched to stop childhood hunger in America. It begins with a simple pledge and making people aware.

Our nation has the food and programs in place to end childhood hunger, but consider what they are up against: The stigmas and embarrassment that surround hunger, the challenges presented by access to healthy food, and the struggle to connect children with the resources they need to thrive. Because it’s going to take lots of us to solve childhood hunger. We need to create an army of supporters who are committed to stamping out hunger once and for all. By adding your name, you are joining a movement of people united to put an end to childhood hunger. And your signature is just the first step.

Share Our Strength, “No Kid Hungry” is much more than a tagline or campaign slogan: It is our reason for being. Every Taste of the Nation event we hold, each state partnership we forge, every nutrition education course we teach, and each new supporter who joins our network is a step toward the finish line – No Kid Hungry in America by 2015.

They have taken major steps toward this goal – adding new state partnerships to end childhood hunger, setting the 2015 deadline, which the Administration endorses, and engaging a growing network of supporters in the No Kid Hungry Campaign.

Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry Campaign operates on four key fronts:

  • Creating public-private partnerships at the state level to break down barriers that prevent kids from accessing the food they need.
  • Feeding hungry kids where they live, learn, and play. In 2009, thanks to a lot of team work, we helped provide 4.5 million more meals to needy children.
  • Educating children and families about nutrition and healthy eating. Through Share Our Strength’s Cooking Matters, we have reached nearly 60,000 families, spreading knowledge on how to budget for groceries and cook great tasting and nutritious foods.
  • Building awareness of the childhood hunger crisis and a drive for change among all Americans. Using as many channels as possible we are making No Kid Hungry a shared national priority.

In 2009, they made progress in each of the four key areas, and we share highlights in the pages that follow. They are hoping that enough people will be inspired to join, or work harder for, the No Kid Hungry Campaign.
