Kirk Franklin and Hezekiah Walker have been named the 2012 BMI Trailblazers Honorees, according to a BMI announcement on November 15, 2011. The gospel greats will be honored at a luncheon on January 13, 2012 in Nashville, Tennessee, one day before the 27th Annual Stellar Awards.
Kirk Franklin was the first gospel artist to sell more than one million albums, and today, his sales tally exceeds 15 million. He has earned 20 #1 singles on gospel charts and has served as host of BET’s “Sunday Best”. Franklin has received numerous BMI songwriting awards, 7 Grammys, 37 Stellar Awards, 14 Dove Awards, and six NAACP Image Awards. His 12th album Hello Fear and its lead single “I Smile” have both topped the Billboard charts. Bishop Hezekiah Walker is a multiple Grammy winner with 11 Stellar Awards, and multiple nominations for Dove, NAACP Image, and Soul Train nominations. Walker founded Love Fellowship Tabernacle Church and Hezekiah Walker Ministries, which has locations in New York and Pennsylvania. Walker’s latest album, Souled Out, is the thirteenth of his career.
